Library & Study Areas The often long hours spent in these areas and the diversity of the uses means that the space not only has to be versatile but comfortable, well lit and aid concentration for prolonged periods. The consideration for both reading, writing and digital work needs to be considered. In addition, the lighting needs to create a relaxing, comfortable and productive environment that aids study. These can often be versatile spaces with shelving, group areas and individual studies, therefore, the lighting may need to be zoned to lit differently within the different spaces. Within shelving areas, good vertical illumination would be important whereas, in study areas, a more personal and localised solution maybe applicable. In collaborative areas, good horizontal illuminance that provides a uniform and comfortable lit environment would be desirable.
